Passionate about fishing?! Previous fly-fishing guide experience and proficiency at tying flies are a must. This is the lead fishing guide position. We have had the good fortune of having an outstanding long time guide for many years. He has unfortunately retired although he will assist in the orientation of our new guide.
Fishing guides are responsible for teaching all aspects of fly fishing to our guests plus basic spin/cast fishing for younger children and those not interested in fly fishing. This includes the basic instruction we offer on a weekly basis per our program schedule for both adults and all of children’s/teen’s groups. You are also responsible for half day and full day guided trips, guiding during ranch clinics, organizing offsite lunches, maintaining cleanliness of all vehicles used for fishing before and after use, overseeing stocking and appearance of fishing ponds, fly tying, and other duties as assigned. You will be required to develop a good working knowledge of our private water. We have private and shared fishing rights on the beautiful Florida River right across the street. We also offer day trips to the world class San Juan River in New Mexico.
Knowledge of basic water safety is very important, CPR and First Aid is required, and fishing guides must be at least 21 years old with a clean driving record in order to transport guests to off ranch fishing areas.
We need most of our staff to start work by May 11, 2020. We need staff to stay until at least August 8th but also need quite a few staff to stay until September 19, 2020 or so. Our main guest season runs from June 7th to September 12th. The first two weeks are to open the ranch. Then we host an annual group and have another project week before regular guests arrive. The final week is to shut down the ranch for the winter.
