The Fly Fisher’s Place: Guide Positions Available

Posted by

We are looking for 2 or 3 new guides for the 2021 season.

FFP has been in business since 1986 and has one of the busiest guide operations in Central Oregon.
We are mostly looking for qualified guides to help on drift trips on the Lower Deschutes and McKenzie Rivers, plus walk and wade trips on the Crooked, Fall, Santiam and Upper Deschutes.

We hold permits from the BLM for the Crooked and Lower Deschutes, the McKenzie Ranger District for the McKenzie and North Santiam Rivers and the Bend Fort Rock Ranger District for the Fall and upper Deschutes Rivers and the Cascade Lakes.

You need to have a capable vehicle, and (most likely) a drift boat if you are applying to be a guide for our popular drift trips. We will consider hiring an applicant without a boat to do walk and wade trips.

You will need to be 1st Aid and CPR certified.
You need to register as a guide with the Oregon State Marine Board.
The shop will add you to our outfitters licenses through the OSMB once you are registered. We will add you to our individual permits to allow you to guide the different waters in our area.

A strong skill set including safe boating, plus fly casting, entomology and fly selection knowledge, knot tying and a modern knowledge of equipment.
The shop pays insurance, shuttles and lunches.
Pay is very good and we are told that it is better than any of the competitive outfitters in the region.

We are an inclusive business and hold values that are important to what we believe are important social issues around the world. Our staff is tight knit and work together.
The shop handles all the bookings and guide trip assignments.
